Watch: What’s On TV Tonight
Early Evening
Rat Race – Film4, 5.05pm
Rat Race is on Film4 from 5.05pm, the 2001 comedy in which a crowd of strangers race across the American Southwest for a casino prize, with John Cleese running the bet. It’s loud and stuffed with cameos, fine for teatime if you’d rather not follow a plot. Horizon Line, a 2020 thriller, takes over at 7.15pm.
Portugal with Michael Portillo – Channel 5, 6pm
Portugal with Michael Portillo is on Channel 5 at 6pm, and the journey begins in Porto. It sits between 5 News with Dan Walker and Police Interceptors.
The One Show – BBC One, 7pm
The One Show is on BBC One at 7pm, fronted by Clara Amfo and Roman Kemp. It runs for half an hour, then hands over to EastEnders.
Hollyoaks – E4, 7pm
Hollyoaks is on E4 at 7pm tonight and runs for half an hour. Two of the McQueens get a nasty fright out in the woods, and Kathleen-Angel has to pick a side when her boyfriend and closest friend fall out. Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows at 7.30pm.
EastEnders – BBC One, 7.30pm
Yes, EastEnders is on BBC One at 7.30pm tonight. Max’s plan goes wrong, Linda and Lee are back in Walford, and the Slaters start getting ready for Zoe’s funeral. Busy, for half an hour.
Mastermind – BBC Two, 7.30pm
Mastermind is on BBC Two at 7.30pm, and The X-Files is among tonight’s specialist subjects. It’s a good one to play along with, although the general-knowledge round is where most of us at home fall apart. Only Connect and University Challenge follow, so BBC Two is quizzes until 9pm.
Cooking with the Stars – ITV1, 7.30pm
Cooking with the Stars is on ITV1 at 7.30pm, a new episode with Emma Willis and Tom Allen presenting. Karen Hauer, Seann Walsh and Laura Kenny are among the celebrities cooking.
Prime Time
Thank You Sir Kev – BBC One, 8pm ⭐
Thank You Sir Kev is on BBC One at 8pm, and it’s the pick of the night. It marks the fundraising of Sir Kevin Sinfield, the rugby league man whose runs and challenges for motor neurone disease have raised, by the BBC’s reckoning, about £13 million. The film keeps coming back to Rob Burrow, his friend and former Leeds Rhinos team-mate, who died from MND in 2024.
Prince William is among those paying tribute. At half an hour it can’t be a full biography, so expect the highlights and keep the tissues close. It’s on iPlayer afterwards.
Emmerdale – ITV1, 8pm
Emmerdale is on ITV1 at 8pm tonight, with Coronation Street straight after at 8.30pm.
Coronation Street – ITV1, 8.30pm
Coronation Street is on ITV1 at 8.30pm, following Emmerdale. Adultery takes the 9pm slot afterwards.
Only Connect – BBC Two, 8pm
Only Connect is on BBC Two at 8pm with Victoria Coren Mitchell presiding. It’s the hardest quiz on the schedule by a distance, and there’s a particular pleasure in spotting a connection the teams have missed.
University Challenge – BBC Two, 8.30pm
University Challenge is on BBC Two at 8.30pm with Amol Rajan asking the questions. Bristol face Queen’s Belfast in a repechage game, the round that gives some of the beaten sides another way back into the competition.
Clickbait Clinic with Stacey Dooley – BBC One, 8.30pm
Clickbait Clinic with Stacey Dooley is on BBC One at 8.30pm, the last of its six episodes. Dooley tests health claims that have gone viral online.
Jamie’s 20-Minute Meals – Channel 4, 8pm
Jamie’s 20-Minute Meals is on Channel 4 at 8pm, a new episode that includes wasabi steak skewers and a gnocchi peperonata. The twenty minutes has always been optimistic once you count the chopping, but the dishes themselves are the sort you’d actually cook midweek.
This City Is Ours – BBC One, 9pm
This City Is Ours is on BBC One at 9pm, the second of eight episodes. James Nelson-Joyce plays Michael in the crime drama, and the whole series is on iPlayer if you’d rather not wait a week between instalments.
Escaping Idi Amin – BBC Two, 9pm
Escaping Idi Amin is on BBC Two at 9pm, the first half of a two-part documentary. In 1972 Uganda’s Asians were told they had 90 days to leave the country, and the film hears from people who lived through that deadline. Bleak going, and the best documentary on tonight.
Adultery – ITV1, 9pm
Adultery is on ITV1 at 9pm, episode two of a new drama about an affair between two parents. The complication is that their teenage children are tangled up in it too, which makes the fallout messier than the usual infidelity plot. The full series is on ITVX.
Pierre – Channel 4, 9pm
Pierre is on Channel 4 at 9pm, a legal drama with David Harewood in the lead. Harewood tends to make anything he’s in worth the effort. Stay on Channel 4 afterwards for Trauma: My Broken Brain at 10pm, which follows three young stroke survivors.
Hot Fuzz – Film4, 9pm
Hot Fuzz is on Film4 at 9pm. Simon Pegg plays an over-qualified Met officer sent to a village that is far too tidy to be true, with Nick Frost as his easily distracted new partner. Edgar Wright’s 2007 comedy gets funnier every time you see it, and the finale is ridiculous in the best way. It runs until 11.25pm, and the rest of tonight’s films are on our films on TV page.
Late Night
Chris Terrill Remembers… Soho Stories – BBC Four, 10pm
Chris Terrill Remembers… Soho Stories is on BBC Four at 10pm, a short introduction from the film-maker who made the original 1996 docu-soap. The first of the twelve episodes follows at 10.15pm, with the second at 10.55pm and the third at 11.35pm.
Gogglebox – E4, 10pm
Gogglebox is on E4 at 10pm, after Made in Chelsea at 9pm, and runs until 11.05pm. Dating Naked USA follows.
QI – BBC Two, 10pm
QI is on BBC Two at 10pm, the last of the run. Sandi Toksvig hosts, with Rosie Jones, Ahir Shah, Henning Wehn and Alan Davies on the panel. Newsnight is next at 10.30pm.
Have I Got News for You – BBC One, 10.40pm
Have I Got News for You is on BBC One at 10.40pm, the fourth of ten. Amol Rajan hosts, Ian Hislop and Paul Merton captain the teams and Salma Shah is the guest.
Bodies Bodies Bodies – BBC One, 11.10pm
Bodies Bodies Bodies is on BBC One at 11.10pm, a 2022 slasher comedy in which a group of friends gather at a mansion for a party and a game goes badly wrong. It comes with strong language and violence, and runs until 12.40am.
On the rest of the dial, BBC Three has Top Gear at 8pm and 9pm, then two episodes of Silent Witness from 10pm. ITV2 has The 1% Club at 8pm and Big Brother at 9pm, ITV3 has a two-hour Midsomer Murders from 8pm and ITV4 has Steven Seagal in Under Siege at 9pm. More4 has Our Farm Next Door at 9pm, Dave has Would I Lie to You? at 7.40pm and 8.20pm, and Legend has Matt Damon in Elysium at 9pm.
Also tonight, Drama has The Brokenwood Mysteries from 8pm, Yesterday has The Americas with Simon Reeve at 8pm, 5USA has Wild Cards at 9pm and 5Star has Ambulance: Code Red at 9pm. Talking Pictures TV has the 1996 Maigret at 8pm, Sky Arts has Andrea Bocelli: A Night in Tuscany at 8pm and Quest has Sam Lovegrove: Race Mechanic at 9pm. GREAT! action has another Seagal film, General Commander, at 9pm, and GREAT! TV has a long MAS*H block from 7pm. BBC Four also shows the 1977 *Mastermind* with Magnus Magnusson at 9pm.

There’s no live sport on the free channels tonight. On pay TV, Walsall v Salford in League Two is on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football, with coverage from 7.30pm and an 8pm kick-off. Game 3 of the World Series is on TNT Sports 1 from 11.30pm. Philadelphia Eagles v Dallas Cowboys is on Sky Sports Main Event at midnight, with the game starting around 12.15am from Lincoln Financial Field. Start with Thank You Sir Kev at 8pm on BBC One, then choose your 9pm. Escaping Idi Amin on BBC Two is the one to watch live. This City Is Ours can wait, since the whole series is on iPlayer, and Hot Fuzz is there if you’d rather laugh.
Quiz fans can skip all that and stay on BBC Two from 7.30pm to 9pm.
