Watch: What’s On TV Tonight

Early Evening

The Martian – Film4, 6.15pm

The Martian is on Film4 at 6.15pm, with Matt Damon as an astronaut presumed dead and left behind on Mars, where he has to grow food, fix kit and keep cracking jokes to stay sane. Ridley Scott’s 2015 film suits the early evening: tense, funny and finished in good time. Film4 follows it with The World’s End at 9pm and Terminator: Dark Fate at 11.10pm.

Strictly: It Takes Two – BBC Two, 6.30pm

Strictly: It Takes Two is on BBC Two at 6.30pm, with Ellie Taylor hosting the weekday companion to Strictly Come Dancing, a panel of the professionals in the studio and rehearsal-room chat. It is the quick way to catch up before the weekend. BBC Two also has House of Games at 6pm and women’s gymnastics from Rotterdam at 7pm, and our guide to watching Strictly Come Dancing has the main show’s slots.

Hollyoaks – E4, 7pm

Hollyoaks is on E4 at 7pm, and Jenson is running out of road as an old secret catches up with him. Theresa is dragged into trouble she did not choose, and Abigail is still throwing her weight around. E4 follows with Brooklyn Nine-Nine at 7.30pm and First Dates at 8pm.

EastEnders – BBC One, 7.30pm

EastEnders is on BBC One at 7.30pm, and Max picks a fight with Cindy tonight, while Cindy’s own suspicions keep growing and Lauren learns something that leaves her horrified. It is the Wednesday episode of a Monday-to-Thursday soap, and the full timetable is in our guide to when the soaps and big shows are on.

Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals – ITV1, 7.30pm

Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals is on ITV1 at 7.30pm, and the Reverend Richard Coles and retired nurse Fiona take their turns at the coin machine, with 20,000 pounds for charity as the jackpot. A friendly half hour before the soaps. ITV2 has Ant and Dec’s Limitless Win at 7pm and The 1% Club with Lee Mack at 8pm.

Prime Time

The Repair Shop: Beyond the Barn – BBC One, 8pm

The Repair Shop: Beyond the Barn is on BBC One at 8pm, and tonight’s is the last episode of the spin-off series. Chris restores a precious copy of Dante’s Divine Comedy printed in 1869, Kirsten pieces back together a smashed award statue, and Geoff tries to bring a vintage one-armed bandit back to life. The slot machine is the one I most want to see working. More of the original series is on Quest at 10pm, with a tape recorder and a strongwoman’s costume on the bench.

Emmerdale – ITV1, 8pm

Emmerdale is on ITV1 at 8pm, with Thea set on bringing down Kim Tate, Chas smelling a rat about Liam’s behaviour, and Sadie sabotaging a dinner. Plenty of scheming, then.

Coronation Street – ITV1, 8.30pm

Coronation Street is on ITV1 at 8.30pm, and Bernie puts on a brave face after bad news from her tests. Debbie bungles a hotel reservation for a wedding, and Ross takes Tyrone’s phone to spoil his night with Fiz. Corrie hands over to Winter at 9pm.

Miss Scarlet – Drama, 8pm

Miss Scarlet is back on Drama at 8pm, and series five opens with a new Detective Inspector at Scotland Yard, Alexander Blake (Tom Durant-Pritchard), who takes over from the Duke after his move to America. Blake does not want private detectives helping with his cases, so Kate Phillips’s Eliza Scarlet has to earn her standing afresh. Drama follows with Father Brown at 9pm, where a village ramblers’ outing ends with a strangled lord, then New Tricks at 10pm.

Location, Location, Location – Channel 4, 8pm

Location, Location, Location is on Channel 4 at 8pm, with Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer working in Berkshire and Hampshire. Sharon has been house-hunting for five years and may need some tough love, while Becca and Phill want a home sorted before they get on with their wedding plans. The interesting part, as ever, is how quickly a budget bends. Channel 4 has Grand Designs at 9pm.

Midsomer Murders – ITV3, 8pm

Midsomer Murders is on ITV3 at 8pm with The Animal Within, in which a woman looking for her uncle finds that he has spread rumours about her and vanished, and then his body turns up. ITV3 also has Heartbeat at 6.55pm and Downton Abbey at 10pm. Elsewhere at 8pm, Legend has Walker, Texas Ranger, 5Action has Motorway Cops, Channel 5 has Murder Scene: The Incident Room and Yesterday has Guy Martin training as a firefighter.

Portrait Artist of the Year – Sky Arts, 8pm

Portrait Artist of the Year is on Sky Arts at 8pm, and heat three of series 13 has nine artists painting three sitters: the skeleton racer Matt Weston, actor Dexter Fletcher and poet Nikita Gill, with a semi-final place on the line. It is oddly tense for a painting contest. Sky Arts follows with Tea with Judi Dench at 9pm, where Dame Judi hosts Sir Kenneth Branagh.

Winter – ITV1, 9pm ⭐

Winter is on ITV1 at 9pm, and it is the one to watch tonight. This is episode four of six, and it begins with human remains that pull Richard Armitage’s pathologist, Dr Ethan Winter, back into a case alongside Annabel Scholey’s DI Lauren Bell and DS Daldry. Bell’s suspicions about Antony also carry heavy consequences tonight, and that thread is as gripping as the forensic puzzle.

What I like about the series is that it lets the science set the pace. Nobody chases anyone down an alley; Winter reads what a body can tell him, and Armitage is good at playing a man who says little and notices everything. Episodes one to three are on ITVX, though with the case-of-the-week structure you won’t be lost if you start here.

Who Do You Think You Are? – BBC One, 9pm

Who Do You Think You Are? is on BBC One at 9pm, a repeat of Josh Widdicombe’s episode, which opened series 18 back in 2021. The comedian follows his family tree to a courtier who had close personal access to King Charles I. Really has Martin Shaw’s episode at 10pm and Long Lost Family at 9pm.

Six Wives with Lucy Worsley – BBC Two, 9pm

Six Wives with Lucy Worsley is on BBC Two at 9pm, and the third and last part of the documentary drama covers a very fast turnaround at Henry VIII’s court. The king ends his marriage to Anne of Cleves and weds the teenage Catherine Howard two weeks later. It is Tudor history told at a gallop.

Grand Designs – Channel 4, 9pm

Grand Designs is on Channel 4 at 9pm, with Kevin McCloud returning to Andrew’s pioneering home, which is heated using insulated earth banks. The question is whether the ambitious thermal experiment actually worked. Revisits tend to be more honest than the original build. More4 has the final Scotland’s Golden Coast at 9pm, with dolphin-watching and a restored fishing boat, and 4seven repeats 24 Hours in A&E.

Rob and Romesh vs the Tour de France – Sky One, 9pm

Rob and Romesh vs the Tour de France is on Sky One at 9pm, as Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan take on cycling’s biggest race, finishing on the Champs-Elysees with Josh Widdicombe and Tom Davis in support. They also race Sir Mark Cavendish over 5km, which should go about as well as you’d expect.

The World’s End – Film4, 9pm

The World’s End is on Film4 at 9pm. Simon Pegg leads a group of old school friends, among them Nick Frost and Martin Freeman, back to their home town to finish a legendary pub crawl, and they discover that something is badly wrong with the locals. It is the third of Edgar Wright’s Cornetto films. The 9pm film slot is busy: Legend has The Misfits with Pierce Brosnan, 5Star has The Chronicles of Riddick, GREAT! Action has Steven Seagal in Force of Execution, and ITV4 has The Gentlemen at 10pm.

QI XL – Dave, 9pm

QI XL is on Dave at 9pm, with Sandi Toksvig hosting the extended cut and Justin Moorhouse, Emmanuel Sonubi, Holly Walsh and Alan Davies on the panel. Dave also has two Would I Lie to You? episodes from 7.40pm and Have I Got a Bit More News for You at 10pm, with Katherine Ryan in the chair.

Night of the Demon – Talking Pictures TV, 9.10pm

Night of the Demon is on Talking Pictures TV at 9.10pm. Jacques Tourneur’s 1957 horror stars Dana Andrews as a sceptical professor who comes to London to look into a devil-worshipping cult, and the shadow-heavy approach holds up well. The channel has Van der Valk at 8.05pm before it, and Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria at 11.10pm after.

Late Night

Ellie & Natasia – BBC Two, 10pm

Ellie & Natasia is back on BBC Two at 10pm, with Ellie White and Natasia Demetriou starting series two and Steve Coogan guesting in the opener. Expect fast, odd sketches about self-importance. Newsnight follows at 10.30pm.

The Experiment – Channel 4, 10pm

The Experiment is on Channel 4 at 10pm, with Sophie Morgan and Mat Fraser guiding visitors around a new experimental residential home, and the question is whether everything is as progressive as it first appears. It is a slow-burn social experiment, so keep an eye on how people react.

The Singing Detective – BBC Four, 10.15pm

The Singing Detective continues on BBC Four at 10.15pm, Dennis Potter’s 1986 serial with Michael Gambon as the bedridden writer Philip Marlow. Episode three dives into Marlow’s childhood memories, and carries a warning for some scenes of a sexual nature. Episode four is at 11.20pm, and Alison Steadman Remembers… The Singing Detective is at 10pm. Earlier, BBC Four has Asteroids: Spark of Life? at 8pm and Brian Cox’s The Planets at 9pm.

Gogglebox – E4, 10pm

Gogglebox is on E4 at 10pm, with the families back on their sofas to judge the week’s television after Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares USA at 9pm. It is a steady closer to the evening. For a comedy night, That’s TV has Benidorm at 9pm and Shameless at 9.55pm, and Blaze has What on Earth? at 9pm.

Sport

The main football on TV tonight is Bayern Munich v Arsenal in the Champions League, with coverage on TNT Sports 1 from 7pm and kick-off at 8pm. Highlights follow on BBC One at 10.40pm. Free to air, BBC Two has the women’s team final from the World Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam from 7pm. Sky Sports Main Event has live EFL football from Reading v Leyton Orient from 7.30pm, and day four of South Africa v Australia in the second Test from 8.30am. More fixtures are on football on TV today, with Arsenal on TV, cricket on TV and sport on TV today.

TV Radar Team

TV Radar Team is the byline on TV Radar's automatically generated TV guides — covering BBC One, BBC Two, ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5 and beyond. Each evening's schedule is built from the published listings (titles, start times, run lengths and episode numbers) and checked against our listings data before publication, so you can decide in two minutes what to record and what to skip. These guides are generated automatically rather than written by hand; a human editor spot-checks them, but not every page is read before it goes live. Based in London, updated every day.
