Bookish – U&Alibi, 8pm & 9.10pm

The series finale, running as a two-parter, finally answers the question hanging over the whole run: what actually happened to Jack’s missing father, Felix. It swaps Book’s usual Archangel Lane bookshop for a snowbound German castle, complete with a body discovered by characters hauled out of bed in dressing gowns, which suits the show’s fondness for a good closed-room set-up. Long-buried secrets surface, and there’s a properly poignant beat between Book and his protégé before the credits roll on the series for good.

The film is careful to draw a line under one common misconception: this is not the Rotherham or Rochdale story again, but a separate and much wider pattern, playing out over decades and largely unrelated to the cases that made headlines. Contributors include Annie, targeted by a London crime gang as a teenager, Christine, lured to what she thought was an innocent date, and May, drugged and raped at 13 after being invited out drinking. The child-protection specialist Sue Berelowitz provides context on how consistently the warning signs were missed. There is nothing entertaining to say about this hour, only that it is honestly made and worth the discomfort of watching it.

Celebrity MasterChef – BBC One, 9pm

Eight celebrities remain, and Ravneet Gill sets them a patisserie challenge that punishes even a tiny slip in weighing or timing. The pressure shows on faces that have handled worse in front of cameras before. Whoever survives goes straight on to cook a gourmet burger for Grace Dent and Giorgio Locatelli, which sounds like light relief after pastry but rarely turns out that way.

Professor T – ITV1, 9pm

A backstage murder with a theatrical twist: a blade that was only ever supposed to retract ends up drawing real blood from an actress mid-performance. Once the director’s daughter becomes a target as well, Chloe pushes the investigation further than her superiors are comfortable with. Ben Miller’s Jasper Tempest treats the whole thing as a puzzle about performance as much as murder, which is what keeps this adaptation interesting past its slightly contrived opening.

The Game – Channel 5, 9pm

The series finale, and Tom Grieves doesn’t let up on the twists at the last moment. Patrick has spent weeks staying exactly one step ahead of everyone, ex-copper Huw included, having convinced him that he’s the only person who really understands him. Robson Green plays that manipulation with real menace, and the ending is left open enough for a third series if Channel 5 wants one.

The Jury: 14 and on Trial for Murder – Channel 4, 9pm

Last in the series, and the jury are deadlocked. The question is whether the two brothers on trial are guilty of murder or manslaughter, and it turns entirely on what counts as a genuine loss of control. Tempers fray in the deliberation room, and one juror later calls the whole process terrifying. Whether their verdict matches the real jury’s is the hook that has carried this format from the start.

Long Lost Family – Really, 9pm

Davina McCall and Nicky Campbell reunite people with relatives they never had the chance to know, in the Born Without Trace strand.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri – Film4, 9pm

Penda’s Fen – BBC Four, 10.15pm

A genuine cult item, and one of the stranger things you’ll find on terrestrial TV this year. David Rudkin’s 1974 Play for Today follows a stiffly religious teenager, the son of a village clergyman, during the final months before he leaves home for good. Strange, half-dreamed encounters with the pagan king Penda and with Edward Elgar’s spirit take a wrecking ball to everything he assumed he believed, about God, about politics, about himself. It has built a devoted following over fifty years through sporadic repeats, cinema screenings and a BFI Blu-ray release. Spencer Banks, who played the teenage lead, introduces the film at 10pm before it airs proper at 10.15pm on BBC Four.
