Wisdom of the Crowd ends its first series on BBC One on Saturday 7 November at 8.15pm. John Bishop hosts the Saturday-night quiz, in which one player at a time tries to out-guess a whole studio audience. This is episode 8 of 8, and it runs for 45 minutes at the same time across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

What is Wisdom of the Crowd?
It is a BBC One quiz built on an old idea from statistics: ask enough people to estimate a number, and their average is usually closer than almost any one person’s guess. The show turns that into a contest between one player and a whole studio audience. The questions ask for a number, so you can play along at home with a guess of your own.
The show comes from Magnum Productions, the company that makes The 1% Club, and it is filmed at MediaCity in Salford.
How does the game work?
A player and the studio crowd answer the same question. The crowd’s answer is worked out from everyone in the audience, and that figure is the one the player has to beat. Get closer than the crowd and the player takes the money. Fall short and the audience shares it.
That is why the odds favour the audience: a big group should win most of the time, and the fun is in the players who manage to beat it.
