Watch: What’s On TV Tonight
Early Evening
The Northumbria Mysteries – BBC One, 2pm
The Northumbria Mysteries starts on BBC One at 2pm, a new daytime drama for anyone at home. Robson Green plays Joe Ruby, a former criminal, and Liz White is DI Rose O’Connell, the Oxford-educated detective who ends up working with him on cases along the Northumberland coast. Simon Callow is in the cast too. The first four episodes are on iPlayer straight away.
Darts: European Championship – ITV4, 6pm
Day two of the tournament comes live from the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, free on ITV4 from 6pm, with AEW Dynamite following at 10pm. It is an early-rounds night, so expect a long run of short, loud matches. Our darts on TV guide has the rest of the weekend.
Entrapment – Film4, 6.40pm
Entrapment is on Film4 at 6.40pm: Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones in a 1999 heist caper and a climactic job on the towers in Kuala Lumpur. The plot gets daft, but it moves quickly, and nobody has ever walked through a laser grid with more confidence than Zeta-Jones. Film4 follows it with The Contractor at 9pm. Certificate 12.
Our Great Yorkshire Life – Channel 5, 7pm
Our Great Yorkshire Life is on Channel 5 at 7pm. Emmerdale’s Matt Wolfenden and Roxy Shahidi, who play David and Leyla in the soap, take on a survival-style challenge around Pateley Bridge in the Nidd Valley. Channel 5 does gentle regional series like this well, and it makes a soft start to the evening.
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing – Dave, 7pm
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing is on Dave at 7pm, with Bob Mortimer and Paul Whitehouse casting their lines on the Crogen Estate in north Wales, and as usual they talk about almost everything except fish. Dave keeps going with I’ll Get This at 7.40pm and Would I Lie to You? at 8.20pm, with Chris Hoy, Ronni Ancona, Danny Wallace and Gabby Logan.
Antiques Road Trip – Quest, 7pm
Antiques Road Trip is on Quest at 7pm, with Natasha Raskin Sharp and Philip Serrell meeting for their last showdown, in Sheffield. By this point in a series the two of them are happily trying to outbid each other, and Quest leaves it to the auction room to decide.
Prime Time
The Celebrity Traitors – BBC One, 8pm ⭐
The Celebrity Traitors is on BBC One at 8pm tonight, and it is the one to watch. Claudia Winkleman is back at the castle, and with fewer players left, every dinner conversation and every task now carries a risk. A harmless-looking mission can leave one celebrity under suspicion for days, and a single slip at the Round Table changes who anyone trusts.
What makes the celebrity version work is that this cast spends its working lives being believed, and watching them try to bluff each other is a different pleasure from watching strangers do it. Nobody is quite as smooth as they think.
Uncloaked follows at 9.05pm with Ed Gamble and guests picking apart the latest banishments and betrayals. If you need to catch up on earlier episodes, our guide to how to watch The Traitors in the UK explains where to find them.
Emmerdale – ITV1, 8pm
Emmerdale is on ITV1 at 8pm tonight. Thea takes Kim’s phone, which is never going to end quietly. Our Emmerdale page has more on the soap.
Coronation Street – ITV1, 8.30pm
Yes, Coronation Street is on ITV1 at 8.30pm tonight, straight after Emmerdale. Debbie has a row with someone from her past. Beat the Chasers follows at 9pm, then the news at 10pm.
Egypt with Dan Snow – Channel 5, 8pm
Egypt with Dan Snow is on Channel 5 at 8pm, and the historian travels through Egypt with his usual excitable enthusiasm for the past. A good option if you want some history and no plot.
George Clarke’s Building Home – Channel 4, 8pm
George Clarke’s Building Home is on Channel 4 at 8pm. Keith and Kate from Glasgow are turning a tower that looks like a small castle into somewhere to live. The budget conversations are the best part, because nobody on this programme ever gets the quote they were hoping for.
Miss Marple – Drama, 8pm
Miss Marple is on Drama at 8pm, with Joan Hickson as Agatha Christie’s sleuth, still the version that many viewers think of first. Two hours of village menace on Drama, followed by New Tricks at 10pm.
Gardeners’ World – BBC Two, 9pm
Gardeners’ World is on BBC Two at 9pm, and Monty Don gets the spring bulbs in the ground, which is the sort of job you can do on a mild weekend before the weather turns. Quietly useful viewing, and the programme is on iPlayer afterwards.
Gogglebox for SU2C – Channel 4, 9.05pm
Gogglebox for SU2C is on Channel 4 at 9.05pm. It is a Stand Up to Cancer evening on the channel, and Gogglebox gets a charity edition in which the regular households sit alongside some famous faces. It is the programme most likely to trend tonight. Earlier, at 7.55pm, Umesh’s Story: Stand Up to Cancer follows a man who learned he had kidney cancer. The Last Leg is at 10.05pm with Roisin Conaty and Finlay Christie. Then Rhod Gilbert’s documentary A Pain in the Neck is repeated at 11.10pm.
War – Sky Atlantic, 9pm
War is on Sky Atlantic at 9pm, the divorce drama on a subscription channel, with James McArdle, Pip Torrens and Nina Sosanya. The divorce proceedings are turning personal. Catch up via NOW.
The Rolling Stones: Live at the Max – Sky Arts, 9pm
The Rolling Stones: Live at the Max is on Sky Arts at 9pm, the band in concert, filmed in 1990 for giant cinema screens. It is a fine thing to leave on loud. Sky Arts follows it with Up from the Streets: New Orleans at 10.45pm.
Have I Got News for You – BBC One, 9.30pm
Have I Got News for You is on BBC One at 9.30pm. Amol Rajan hosts, with Ian Hislop and Paul Merton leading the teams and the political commentator Salma Shah as a guest panellist. It follows Uncloaked.
Disco at the BBC: Volume 2 – BBC Four, 9.45pm
Disco at the BBC: Volume 2 is on BBC Four at 9.45pm as part of a disco night, with archive classics from acts such as George McCrae, Anita Ward and Baccara. At 10.45pm, Boogie Fever: A TOTP2 Disco Special, presented by Steve Wright, has Chic, Gloria Gaynor, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and the Weather Girls. Earlier Top of the Pops repeats run from 7pm.
Ipswich v Nottingham Forest – Sky Sports Main Event, 7.30pm
Ipswich v Nottingham Forest is on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League tonight, with coverage from 7.30pm and kick-off at 8pm at Portman Road. It is a pay-TV game, so there is no free-to-air option tonight. Our football on TV today page has the rest of the weekend’s matches.
Late Night
Halloween – BBC Two, 10pm
Halloween, John Carpenter’s 1978 original, is on BBC Two at 10pm, with Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and Donald Pleasence as Dr Loomis. It is the film that started the slasher cycle, and a fitting watch with Halloween a week away. Certificate 15, the BBFC’s current rating since the film was reclassified in 2018. The Blackening, a horror comedy, follows at 11.30pm.
The Graham Norton Show – BBC One, 10.40pm
The Graham Norton Show is on BBC One at 10.40pm, and Cate Blanchett, Hannah Waddingham and Robert Irwin share the sofa. Irwin is a reliable source of animal stories and Waddingham tends to steal any show she is on, so it should be lively. RuPaul’s Drag Race UK follows at 11.30pm.
Godzilla vs Kong – ITV1, 10.45pm
Godzilla vs Kong is on ITV1 at 10.45pm, the 2021 monster movie with Alexander Skarsgard and Millie Bobby Brown on the human side. It is loud, lightly plotted and mostly about two huge creatures hitting each other. Certificate 12.
Northern Comfort – Channel 4, 12.15am
Northern Comfort is on Channel 4 at 12.15am, an English-language comedy from the Icelandic director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson, with Timothy Spall and Lydia Leonard among a group of strangers on a fear-of-flying course. It is odd, sad and sweet, and an unusual choice for a late slot.
On the rest of the dial, ITV3 has two Doc Martin repeats from 8pm and Downton Abbey at 10pm, ITV2 hosts the Big Brother live eviction at 9pm, More4 has the detective series Coastal Unit at 9pm, E4 screens Speed with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock at 9pm, Legend has 12 Rounds at 9pm, Yesterday has Canal Boat Diaries at 8pm and 5USA runs NCIS from 6.05pm.
Sport
Most of the live sport is on pay channels, but darts is free. The European Championship from Dortmund is on ITV4 from 6pm, and ITV4 follows it with AEW Dynamite at 10pm. BBC Two has the women’s all-around final of the Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam at 8pm. On Sky Sports Main Event, Ipswich v Nottingham Forest kicks off at 8pm with coverage from 7.30pm, and TNT Sports 1 has Gloucester v Bath in rugby union with kick-off at 7.45pm. See sport on TV today for the full list.

BBC Four’s disco night suits anyone who likes archive pop, and Graham Norton at 10.40pm is a good way to close a Friday.
