Watch: What’s On TV Tonight
Early Evening
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing – Dave, 7pm
Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing is on Dave at 7pm, with Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer on the River Exe in Devon, catching very little and chatting happily about everything else. The fishing is an excuse, and the show is better for admitting it. Dave keeps the comfort going with Would I Lie to You? at 7.40pm and 8.20pm, QI XL at 9pm and Have I Got a Bit More News for You at 10pm.
Portrait Artist of the Year 2026 – Sky Arts, 7pm
Portrait Artist of the Year 2026 is on Sky Arts at 7pm, and the sitters this time are skeleton racer Matt Weston, actor and director Dexter Fletcher and the poet Nikita Gill. It’s a calm hour of people painting under a clock, and the fun is in seeing whether anyone catches a sitter’s actual face. Sky Arts then gives Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure a proper build-up from 8pm.
Gymnastics: World Championships – BBC Two, 7pm
Gymnastics: World Championships is on BBC Two at 7pm, and the men’s all-around final fills two hours as the main event of the championships in Rotterdam. It is the one gymnastics session that rewards casual viewers, because six apparatus means the lead changes hands and nobody can coast. BBC Two follows at 9pm with Surgeons: At the Edge of Life, as Aman Coonar takes on a rare tumour.
Where Eagles Dare – BBC Four, 7pm
Where Eagles Dare is on BBC Four at 7pm, the 1968 Second World War adventure in which Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood parachute into a Bavarian castle to rescue a captured American general. Nobody should defend the plot, which is a heap of double-crosses, but the cable-car fight is still brilliant and Eastwood gets to do very little talking. BBC Four has the Mercury Prize at 9.30pm and North by Northwest at 11pm.
EastEnders – BBC One, 7.30pm
Yes, EastEnders is on BBC One at 7.30pm tonight. Thursday is the last EastEnders of the week, so the next episode is Monday 26 October. Tonight Cindy demands answers, and given her history in Walford that’s seldom a quiet request. Our guide to when the soaps and big shows are on has the weekly pattern if you lose track.
Parking: Why Are We Paying So Much? Tonight – ITV1, 7.30pm
Parking: Why Are We Paying So Much? Tonight is on ITV1 at 7.30pm, with Paul Brand looking at why private parking tickets have hit a record level and what drivers can do about one. It is a useful half-hour if you have ever opened a letter from a car park operator with a sinking feeling, and it leads into the Pride of Britain Awards.
Prime Time
The Celebrity Traitors – BBC One, 8pm ⭐
The Celebrity Traitors is on BBC One at 8pm tonight with episode seven, and the series has settled into the grim rhythm of the castle. Claudia Winkleman presides, and this week begins with a breakfast-table shock for the Faithful, the sort of morning-after jolt that sends everyone scanning faces for a flicker of guilt.
The format works because nobody, however famous, is much good at lying to people they have been living with. Trained performers may be worse at it, because they think they’re convincing. Every accusation also lands on someone with a public image to protect, which makes the round table far more awkward than it would be with strangers.
Uncloaked follows at 9.05pm, with Ed Gamble and his guests dissecting the episode. If you only watch one thing tonight, make it these two hours, and our guide to watching The Traitors has the viewing details.
The Pride of Britain Awards 2026 – ITV1, 8pm
The Pride of Britain Awards 2026 are on ITV1 at 8pm, with Carol Vorderman and Ashley Banjo hosting the annual ceremony, recorded on Monday at Grosvenor House in London. It honours people who have shown courage, resilience or generosity, with royalty and famous faces handing out the trophies. Categories include Child/Teenager of Courage, Outstanding Bravery and Fundraiser of the Year. Pour a cup of tea first, because it’s an emotional two hours.
The Yorkshire Vet – Channel 5, 8pm
The Yorkshire Vet is on Channel 5 at 8pm, and Flynn the spaniel has swallowed a glove and needs help bringing it back up, a hen called Jemima has an egg problem and a sheep needs an emergency caesarean. Peter Wright and Rohin Aojula also face two farmers in a lawn bowls match, which is the best part of the hour.
Our Tiny Islands – Channel 4, 8pm
Our Tiny Islands is on Channel 4 at 8pm, and this week’s family lives on Sark, one of the smallest inhabited places in the Channel Islands, where they keep bees and build their own home. The series is about self-sufficient island life, so expect plenty of wind, hard graft and a very short list of local shops.
Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics – Yesterday, 8pm
Bangers & Cash: Restoring Classics is on Yesterday at 8pm, and the Mathewson team have a 1969 Sachsenring Trabant and a 1990 Renault 5 Monaco to fix up, both cars that most people have not seen for decades. Yesterday follows at 9pm with Dream Car Fixers and a Reliant Scimitar GTE.
Vera – ITV3, 8pm
Vera is on ITV3 at 8pm, with Brenda Blethyn’s Vera Stanhope investigating the murder of a popular local GP, the kind of death that gets the whole community talking and nobody quite telling the truth. ITV3 has Downton Abbey at 10pm and Inspector Morse at 11.50pm.
Miss Scarlet – Drama, 8pm
Miss Scarlet is on Drama at 8pm, and Eliza Scarlet has to work out who killed a well-known private eye, which is a lovely job for a woman trying to make her name in a trade full of men. Drama goes on with A Remarkable Place to Die at 9pm and New Tricks at 10pm.
NCIS – 5USA, 8pm
NCIS is on 5USA at 8pm, and the agents are put in charge of an overseas minister’s daughter, so the usual chase has diplomacy to trip over. 5USA then moves on to Blue Bloods at 9pm and a Special Victims Unit marathon.
Rescue Dawn – Film4, 9pm
Rescue Dawn is on Film4 at 9pm, Werner Herzog’s 2006 drama with Christian Bale as pilot Dieter Dengler, shot down over Laos and held in a prison camp. Steve Zahn plays one of his fellow prisoners. It’s a sweaty, hungry and strangely funny survival story, and Bale’s weight loss is not a trick of the lighting. Film4 opened the evening at 6.25pm with Battleship and ends with Smile at 11.25pm.
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure – Sky Arts, 9pm
Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is on Sky Arts at 9pm. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are two slackers who must pass a history report or the future falls apart, so they borrow a phone box and collect historical figures. It’s silly, gentle and still funny in 2026. Ian Nathan’s documentary on the making of the 1989 comedy at 8pm is the warm-up.
Taskmaster – Channel 4, 9.05pm
Taskmaster is on Channel 4 at 9.05pm with episode eight of series 22, as Greg Davies and Alex Horne put Richard Ayoade, Nina Conti, Chloe Petts, Isy Suttie and Matt Lucas through another round. A task involving airborne sausages costs Chloe Petts a drop of blood. The show works best when a competitor misreads the brief and commits to the mistake with total conviction, which suits Ayoade.
All Creatures Great and Small – Channel 5, 9.05pm
The All Creatures Great and Small series finale is on Channel 5 at 9.05pm. Granville Bennett calls Siegfried in over a horse with a stomach complaint, and a visit from a government man hangs over Skeldale House. Nicholas Ralph, Callum Woodhouse, Samuel West and Anna Madeley lead the cast. Alexander Armstrong in India, on its final leg in Mumbai, is on at 10.05pm.
Not Going Out – BBC One, 9.30pm
Not Going Out is on BBC One at 9.30pm, with Lee Mack and Sally Bretton as Lee and Lucy, and this week Lucy’s stall at a craft fair, selling dream catchers, needs staffing. Lee volunteers with a plan and, naturally, makes it worse. It’s a safe half-hour between Uncloaked and the news.
Mercury Prize 2026: Album of the Year – BBC Four, 9.30pm
Mercury Prize 2026: Album of the Year is on BBC Four at 9.30pm, with the ceremony coming from the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. The shortlist of 12 includes Olivia Dean, Paul McCartney, Suede, Dave and Raye, and the winner takes home £25,000. Olivia Dean, Raye, Jade, Florence + The Machine and Suede are among the nominated acts due to perform, and Pulp play for the War Child Help(2) album. A prize like this tends to go to a surprise as often as a favourite.
Late Night
Live at the Apollo – BBC Two, 10pm
Live at the Apollo is on BBC Two at 10pm, with Sara Pascoe, Amy Gledhill and Eddie Kadi doing stand-up, a quick, reliable laugh before Newsnight.
It Gets Worse – Channel 4, 10.05pm
It Gets Worse starts on Channel 4 at 10.05pm, and Leo Reich writes and stars in the new comedy as Ethan, a twenty-something whose life keeps failing. Emily Fairn plays his friend Abi and Olive Gray plays Sam, and Andrew Scott pops up as Ethan’s therapist. Two episodes are shown back to back, at 10.05pm and 10.35pm.
Tomorrow Never Dies – ITV1, 10.50pm
Tomorrow Never Dies is on ITV1 at 10.50pm. Pierce Brosnan’s second Bond film has Jonathan Pryce as a media tycoon trying to start a war for the headlines, and Michelle Yeoh as the agent who keeps up with Bond. It is a fast, loud 1997 adventure that suits a late slot.
North by Northwest – BBC Four, 11pm
North by Northwest is on BBC Four at 11pm. Alfred Hitchcock’s 1959 thriller has Cary Grant as an advertising man mistaken for a spy, with Eva Marie Saint opposite him. The crop-duster scene is the famous one, but the whole film hurries along at a pleasing clip.
Sport
Football on TV tonight is the Europa League on TNT Sports, with 8pm kick-offs for Bournemouth v AC Milan, Besiktas v Crystal Palace and Celtic v Celta Vigo, so there’s no live football on free-to-air channels. The European Championship darts begins on ITV4 from 6pm, with day one in Dortmund, and BBC Two carries the men’s all-around gymnastics final at 7pm. Our pages on Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Celtic have more, and football on TV today covers the rest. Early risers can catch Sri Lanka v England in the one-day tri-series from Rawalpindi on Sky Sports Cricket from 8.30am, and our cricket on TV guide has the wider picture.
